A new documentary on Jim Thorpe (Sac and Fox/Potawotami), one of the greatest athletes in United States' history, is set to premiere on The HISTORY Channel in July. "Jim Thorpe: Lit by Lightning" examines Thorpe's life from his childhood on the Sac and Fox reservation in Oklahoma through his numerous athletic achievements across multiple sports by utilizing interviews with Indigenous scholars, athletes, sports historians, and Thorpe's own words. Directed by Cheyenne and Arapaho filmmaker Chris Eyre, the film frames Thorpe's story around what it means to be American when that very country has attempted to erase your existence.
